  The ArtsXchange campus on the Deuces Corridor is an anchor destination for ArtWalk visitors. We promote ArtWalk through out own marketing channels and those of the St Petersburg Arts Alliance.

  Tent space is limited, so reserve early. The completion of our Education Center, the Rise monument, and our Outdoor Theater have increased foot-traffic to all sections of the ArtsXchange plaza. Every tent space has high visibility.

  General Terms and Conditions

  • Offered exclusively to WADA Members for a $25 registration fee.
    
  • You must be an artisan selling personally handcrafted goods.
  • WADA provides a 10'x10" space on the plaza with access to electricity.
    
  • You provide a weather-stable tent with weights at all corners.
  • You provide all props, displays, lighting; suitable for outdoor weather conditions.
    
  • Space is allocated on a first come basis, after check-in with a WADA representative, on the day of the event. No set-ups prior to 3:00 pm.
  • ArtWalk runs from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Weather permitting, all vendors must remain open for the duration of the event.
  • Refunds: If you are unable to attend after making a reservation, please contact us and we will apply your registration fee to the next month. ArtWalk is a rain or shine event. If you choose not to set up in unfavorable weather, your reservation will be credited to next month.

   DEC. 1- Helios Jazz Orchestra feat. Fred Johnson, “Jazz & Politics, Harmony & Discourse”, Roundtable on South St. Pete’s Food Deserts and Food Insecurity

  St. Petersburg, FL – The Warehouse Arts District Association, in collaboration with the EMIT, Arts Axis, and WUSF Jazz are excited to announce the "Helios Jazz Orchestra feat. Fred Johnson" concert and roundtable discussion on December 1^st.

  In South St. Pete, numerous communities grapple with the challenge of "food deserts", areas where access to fresh and nutritious food is limited or too expensive. To bring continued awareness to this pressing issue, WADA is hosting a 2-part event that is part of the "Jazz and Politics: Harmony & Discourse" concert series.

  The roundtable discussion will be featuring influential community leaders and advocates for addressing food insecurity in South St. Pete and beyond. Participants include Moderator: Shaina Bent, COO at the Free Clinic, Rev. Louis M. Murphy, Sr. Senior Pastor, Dr. Yvonne Williams, Associate Provost, SPC, Caitlyn Peacock, ED of Tampa Bay Network to End Hunger, Lisa Pineda, President- Sustainable Urban Agriculture Coalition, and Wendy Wesley, Nutritionist & Dietitian and Erica Hardison, Florida Food Policy Council Board Member, Board President for One Community Grocery Co-op.

  Following the discussion, a concert will showcase a talented ensemble of musicians from Helios Jazz Orchestra featuring local jazz singer Fred Johnson. Currently serving as a community engagement specialist and artist-in-residence at the Straz, his creative projects continue to inspire.

  The 2-part event will take place at Tully Levine Gallery and the ArtsXchange Outdoor Theater, located at 515 22nd Street South, St. Petersburg, on Friday, December 1^st, from 6:00 PM to 9 PM.

  Ticket pricing options include General Admission tickets at $15 and discounted tickets for WADA members at $10. We recommend that you register from a laptop or desktop. 

  Walk-up tickets are $20. 
  

  The event schedule is as follows:

  • 6:00-7:00 PM at Tully Levine Gallery: Roundtable discussion on food insecurity and South St. Pete “food deserts” featuring community leaders.

  • 7:00-9 PM: Concert by Helios Jazz Orchestra featuring vocalist Fred Johnson.

  Drawing is one of the most fundamental forms of artmaking, with some of the earliest examples being the cave paintings in Lascaux, France from 30,000BCE. Drawing, since then, has evolved to become a powerful tool for artists to manifest their ideas into reality. WADA is committed to providing artists from all over Tampa Bay the resources necessary to sharpen this tool, hone their craft, and cultivate the artist community.

  The weekly Figure Drawing Lab is a drop-in opportunity that welcomes artists of all skill levels to practice with intention and work alongside professional artists. Space is limited, so when you register in advance, your place is guaranteed. The live models rotate weekly to keep the exercises varied and challenge the artists to improve each week.

  If you don't have a tent you can still sell your work at Art Walk

  December 9 Second Saturday ArtWalk 5:00pm to 9:00pm
  

  As a WADA Member, you can sell your artwork on Second Saturday ArtWalk at the ArtsXchange on the Deuces Corridor, even if you don't have a tent. We find that smaller, less expensive art is best suited to the Art Store tent.

  • Register in advance, space may be limited.
    
  • Bring your artwork to the Burka Lounge on Friday, December 8 between 11:00 and 2:00. Pick up unsold works at the end of ArtWalk or on Tuesday, December 12 between 11:00 and 2:00.
  • You can submit up to 3 pieces, but nothing larger than 20" x 20".
  • All works must have an attached visible price tag with your name and the retail price.
  • Please include tabletop stands to display your work in case we can't hang your work on the tent grid-wall.
    
  • WADA retains a 35% commission on all sales made.

  We invite our community to join us for an enchanting evening of holiday cheer and artistic wonder as the Warehouse Arts District Association (WADA) and Mt. Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church come together to illuminate the season. 

  For the Trolley Service between WADA and Mt. Zion, please click on the red "Register" button by December 7th. 

  We start at the ArtsXchange, where the campus will be engaged in the city-wide Second Saturday ArtWalk, celebrating art and community. 

  Then enjoy complimentary transportation between WADA and Mt. Zion via the STAR TROLLEY. We will make our way along the historic Deuces Corridor to Mt Zion for

  • A wondrous display of creativity, twinkling lights, carolers, hot chocolate, and even a touch of winter magic with a snow machine. 

  • A tree lighting and proclamation at 6:30 p.m. to mark the start of the holiday season.

  • Then at 8:00 p.m., be captivated by a soul-stirring performance by Mt. Zion's choir, band, and mime ensemble back at the WADA ArtsXchange stage. 

  This collaboration embodies the true spirit of the holidays and the power of community unity. Join us for an unforgettable evening of holiday festivities, community spirit, and artistic wonder. 

  This event is free and open to the public. 

  If you plan ride the trolley between WADA and Mt Zion, please register by December 7. Priority will be given to WADA members who have registered.

  History of the technique

  In 1915 a group of 6 women artists decided to spend their winter in the summer resort town of Provincetown, Massachusetts to work on a new printmaking technique. These women were all Japanese Wood cut Printmakers; a technique that uses separate plates for each color in the composition. These artists wanted to invent something that looked similar but used one plate versus many. White line printmaking was developed from this collaboration and is popular in the US today.

  The method utilizes a soft wood block as the printing plate. The image is transferred to the wood then each line is cut with a craft knife, making V-lines that appear as white lines in the finished product. The paper is tacked to the top of the wood plate with thumb tacks to create a perfect registration, making sure the paper falls in the exact same place each time. 

  Using watercolor onto the wood plate in one small area at a time, then folding the paper over and burnishing the back of the paper with a silver spoon, repeating the process until the print is complete. 

  White-line woodblock printmaking is the first printmaking technique unique to the United States.
