  • ArtsXchange St Pete 515 22nd Street South, Saint Petersburg, Florida 33712
Keep St. Pete Lit is hosting their third literary salon of the 2017-2018 season, a place for the community to engage with authors and explore new ideas.

Performing the Body

Join Amber DiPietra as she explores body awareness, disability culture, and intimacy while weaving between performance, poetry, dialogue, and dance. Amber shares the process of creating live installations in collaboration with sculptures like Jellyfish House by, making immersive dance with mixed ability troupes like Axis Dance, and her solo show—a kind of manatee burlesque that will premier at the Tampa Fringe Festival in May 2018.

In her talk, Amber will also reflect on the ways that art connects to body work, healing, and sexuality.

Amber DiPietra is a interdisciplinary artist, writing teacher, intimacy coach, and a Somatic Sex Educator through the Institute of Advanced Studies of Human Sexuality in California. Waveform, her poetry collaboration with Denise Leto, was published in 2011 by Kenning Editions. Other writing appears in anthologies like Beauty Is a Verb: The New Poetry of Disability; The Force of What’s Possible: Writers on Accessibility and the Avant-Garde; and several literary journals. Amber has lead writing workshops in nursing homes, vocational centers for the blind, juvenile detention centers, substance abuse recovery homes and more. She creates participatory, body-based performances in places like the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit in Washington DC, and at universities in Tucson, Boulder, and Ann Arbor. Here in St. Petersburg, Amber runs the body poetik, a project to explore sensual awareness and creativity.
