Intro to Mime and Movement by John Collins
Embark on a captivating exploration of mime with our workshop, co-presented by the esteemed Academy of Ballet Arts (ABA). Led by John Collins, a distinguished figure in the field, this workshop offers an immersive dive into the timeless principles of mime, using the human body as the primary mode of expression.
Discover the subtle artistry of mime as its own distinct form, focusing on fundamental concepts and techniques. Through gentle guidance, participants will learn the basic movement foundations, including body training techniques such as "isolations" for precise choreography of body sections.
This workshop emphasizes the classical tradition of mime as created by Etienne Decroux, distinct from traditional pantomime and devoid of clowning or tricks. While maintaining a respectful approach to the art form, we'll also engage in moments of light-hearted exploration, including basic illusions like walking in place and building imaginary walls.
Join us for an enriching experience led by John Collins, drawing from his extensive background as the founder and artistic director of the Boston Mime Theatre. Through his expertise, participants will gain new insights and skills, whether for acting, dance, or other physical performances.
