an Artists Member Art show with the theme

Chiaroscuro - Light and Shadow


Think of it as a bit like life - a balance between Joy and Pain. 

it is hard to know one without appreciating the other.


Without Light there is no Shadow

  • The arrangement or treatment of light and dark parts in a pictorial work of art

  • An effect of contrasted light and shadow created by light falling unevenly or from a particular direction on something.

  • Pictorial representation in terms of light and shade without regard to color

Selected artworks fitting this theme submitted by WADA members, will be on exhibit for the month of January 2022 in the Burka Member Lounge at the ArtsXchange on the Deuces Corridor located in the heart of the Warehouse Arts District. The ArtsXchange campus is one of the most widely visited spots during Second Saturday Artwalk.  Fill out the entry form:

    Eligibility: The exhibition is open to all WADA artists members If you are not a member, join now.

    Entry Deadline: Sunday, January 2, 2022. 

    Entry Fee: WADA Members Only - No Fee

    Specifications:All forms of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, video, and digital/ graphic art are eligible for review. Nothing larger than 40”x40” including frame; must be gallery ready to hang (see below)

    Notification: Artists will be notified of acceptance no later than Tuesday January 4, 2022. 

    Drop Off: Accepted works must be dropped off at the Burka Lounge on Wednesday & Thursday, January 5-6 from 10am - 4pm.

    Commission: WADA will take a 25% gallery commission on any sales made during this exhibition.

    Exhibit Dates: January 8 thru January 31, 2022

    Opening Reception: Second Saturday Art Walk January 8, 2022

    Location: The Burka Member Lounge at ArtsXchange on the Deuces Corridor, 515 22nd Street S., St Petersburg, FL 33712

WADA Selection Committee will select work from  artist members who submit to this artist call. The selection committee will make selections based on overall impact, originality, creativity, and mastery of techniques. Selections will also be constrained by exhibition space.  Decisions by the selection committee will be final. When submitting your entry, please list all the media used in the description field for your entries.

Conditions and Rules for Entry:

All accepted works of art must be “GALLERY READY” when brought to the event facility (i.e. all hanging works must include an installed horizontal wire). NO SAW-TOOTH HANGERS. 
  • Artists with 3D work requiring a pedestal MUST provide one before show opening. Pedestal(s) must be stable, white/black and tall enough for the work to be near eye level. 
  • Works should not weigh more than 35 pounds.
  • WADA reserves the right to reject works if they are not presented in the format specified. Please contact WADA email if you have concerns whether your work meets gallery presentation requirements.  
  • Artist may not substitute another work for the accepted work. 
  • Entries must be for sale and priced with the intent to sell. A gallery commission of 25% will be deducted from sales. 
  • By submitting artwork for this show, artists grant permission to WADA to reproduce accepted artwork for promotional uses in both printed and electronic formats.

Artists whose work has been selected will be responsible for delivery and pick up of work to the Burka Lounge.  Artist must sign consignment agreement prior to or during drop off. 


Important Dates:

  • Sunday, January 2, 2022--  Deadline for entries
  • Tuesday, January 4, 2022 -- Notifications of acceptance emailed to selected artists
  • January 5, 2022,10:00am-4:00pm -- Artwork drop off at the Burka Lounge
  • Saturday January 8, 2022 5 – 9 pm -- Second Saturday Art Walk Opening reception. Artists are encouraged to attend. 
  • January 31, 2022 -- Exhibit closes
  • February 2-4, 2022 from10:00 am - 4:00 pm -- Pick up artwork (contact Director of Operations to arrange different date)

Exhibition will also be viewable by appointment and under safety guidelines in accordance with COVID-19.
